Sometimes I sew things that I almost hesitate to put up for sale because I like them so much. This is one of them. I fell in love with this organic cotton knit fabric a long time ago and bought a couple yards of two different colorways. I already sewed up all of the pink, and now I'm working my way through this apple green.
This fabric, with its bi-directional, largely spaced print, encourages -- almost requires -- fussy cutting. Fussy cutting is cutting a garment with consideration of where the design elements will be placed. It usually results in using more fabric than you actually need, but the results are very satisfying.
In this case, I decided to fussy-cut the hat so that a group of gnomes would be centered on the cuff. I think it turned out really cute! However, let's not talk about how many cuffs I cut out, sewed up, and had to discard because it didn't turn out quite right. I'm still a little traumatized.
I think day gowns are just beautiful for infant wear. They have an aura of days gone by. They are also very convenient because it's so easy to change diapers with the elasticized bottom. I dressed all of my children in them when they were babies. This day gown/hat set will be available on Wednesday May 21st at Hyenacart. Previews are up now!
