I always thought that as a stay-at-home mom, weekends wouldn't really feel any different than weekdays. Not true! Now that two of my children are in school, the weekdays are a constant hustle-bustle of making lunches, driving carpool, going to activities, and doing homework. I really do find myself looking forward to Friday, just like in the "old days" when I went to the office each day.
Saturdays and Sundays are just different. There is a slower pace, usually the whole family is home, and we are free to do (or NOT do) whatever we like.
Saturday nights are usually family-date nights. Now, my family is far from perfect and there is usually some annoyance and grumbling as we try to get everyone ready to go, but once we get there we always have fun. This weekend we went to an indoor playground, then out to a casual restaurant, and then home for movie night. Movie night, at our house, is a fun tradition where we get the kids into their PJ's and brush teeth, then everyone piles onto the couch to watch a family-friendly movie. (In about 30 minutes all the kids are asleep, my husband and I carry them upstairs to their beds, and then we pop in a DVD we want to watch.)
Sunday afternoons after church are for playing outside or inside (depending on the weather and whether anyone is sick). Here are some pictures of yesterday's activities:
I hope you enjoyed this little peek into our lives. What do you like to do with your family on the weekend?
They fall asleep during a movie? I need them to start talking to my kids :).
Weekends are spent on the ball field, at church, gardening, and at the farmer's market. We try for outdoors as much as possible (which isn't hard in So. Cal.)
I love the date night idea, I may have to start doing that.
