The Gift that Keeps on Giving

Someone please get this gigantic pound cake out of my house.

Not a Creature is Stirring

The cookies have been baked.

The angels have marched.

The shepherds have too.

And the stockings (the REAL ones this time) have been hung with care, the children have been tucked in, and the presents have been wrapped. Now there is nothing left to do but... grab that long winter's nap!

Do-It-Yourself Stockings

We told the kids they would have to wait until Christmas Eve to hang up their big, fancy velvet Christmas stockings. I guess they decided they couldn't wait anymore.

They raided their sock drawers (and also, embarrassingly, the dirty clothes hamper), spent a little time twisting and untwisting the wired garland, and Voila! Do-it-yourself stockings. Gotta admire them for their initiative.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like...

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, the holiday decorating is cranking up at our house. The kids loved decorating this miniature tree with tiny ornaments and a string of beads today. Of course, they had a lot of fun helping us decorate the BIG tree too!

Now it's time for me to start the holiday shopping - I must admit, I did not brave the crowds on Black Friday. But I'll be venturing out to the stores this week to start fulfilling some little requests. I'll probably be doing a fair bit of online shopping as well, and speaking of that... have you checked out my Hyenacart shop lately? I am stocking tomorrow, Monday December 1st (which is also known as "Cyber Monday", or the kickoff of the online holiday shopping season). I have lots of great items for the littlest people on your shopping list! Everything becomes available at 12:25 p.m., so check it out!

Trick or Treat!

One of the great privileges of this parenting gig is getting to be there when your child experiences something wonderful for the first time.

Cookies Anyone?

My husband and I have a tradition which dates wayyyy back, to even before we had kids. We like to bake cut-out sugar cookies and decorate them together. As we've added to our family, we've introduced each child to the joys of frosting and sprinkles. Today we all got to spend a happy hour or two sitting at the kitchen table decorating bunnies and eggs and comparing techniques. Yes, this involves some sugar and artificial colors, but I think it's OK to bend those rules occasionally for the sake of creativity and family togetherness. Who knows, maybe we are raising budding artists!

This week is Spring Break, and all the kids and my husband are off from school/work. We have some fun things planned, which may mean I'm not going to be sewing much and consequently (as this is technically a sewing blog) not blogging much. Rest assured, I'll be back to my machines with things to show you after Spring Break. I hope you are all having a chance to enjoy your families this Holiday weekend, whether you celebrate Easter or not! Thanks so much for reading. :)
